Harness innovation as business—minister
Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule has urged the youth to ensure they use their innovations to generate income.
She said this on Friday in Blantyre when she engaged the youth in the tourism sector.

The minister said the youth are already innovative and energetic but what remains is to make use of their innovations for the development of the tourism sector.
Kamtukule observed that most of the businesses in the sector do not necessarily require much money for capital but ideas.
She said: “As you may be aware, we have the Malawi 2063, the Malawi 2063 [MW2063] first 10 year-Implementation Plan [MIP 1] and we have the agriculture, tourism and mining [ATM] strategy to operationalise the MIP. All these strategies depend on young people.
“Now, if they do not take up your role within the economy, then nothing will happen. MW2063 will only be rhetoric, but we need young people to take up the space available within various sectors of the economy.”
Talinda Chona, a fourth year student from Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) said the meeting opened her eyes to use innovation to generate income.
“I will not wait for someone to hire me. Instead, I should hire myself through my skills and innovative ideas,” she said.
