Sycamore sharpens firms on environment, social, governance
Sycamore Consult Limited has trained employees from major Malawian companies on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles to help businesses meet sustainability and investor expectations.
The three-day programme in Lilongwe brought together staff from Lilongwe Dairy, Centenary Bank, Egenco ,Limbe Leaf Tobacco Company and the National Planning Commission.
ESG standards, used by socially conscious investors, assess companies on environmental impact, social responsibility and corporate governance.

“ESG is a new programme which people are not fully conversant with, so we were training them on how they can understand the whole concept and how they can implement it,” Sycamore Managing director Audrey Mwala said on Friday.
She added that the sessions also highlighted “the benefits that come with it — such as preservation of the environment and taking care of societal needs.”
Mwala pointed to climate change impacts such as drying rivers and flooding, along with workplace safety risks, as issues that demand corporate action through ESG integration.
A participant from Limbe Leaf, Leah Hez, said the workshop provided “the gist of what we are supposed to be doing in our corporate entities to make sure that we are sustainable” and aligned with investor expectations.
