Christopher Kapanga mourned
Several individuals and organisations, including Standard Bank plc Malawi, have paid tribute to Christopher Kapanga as a humble, strategic and respected corporate leader whose unwavering commitment shaped Malawi’s financial landscape.
In a statement issued yesterday, Standard Bank noted that Kapanga, who became board chairperson in 2023, was exceptional in his leadership and inspired the bank’s pursuit of sustainable growth, even amid challenging economic conditions.

“His leadership inspired our pursuit of sustainable growth, even in challenging economic times, and strengthened our mission to be a true partner in driving Malawi’s progress,” the bank’s statement read.
The bank added that Kapanga’s dedication to excellence, combined with his vision and integrity, was instrumental to the institution’s success.
Mibawa Television Limited executive director John Nthakomwa described Kapanga’s passing as a profound loss.
Writing on Facebook, he said: “A very sad loss, a great man, humble man and a man who loved his country. Rest in peace Chris-Tofa Kapanga until we meet again.”
According to the official funeral programme, a vigil is being held at Kapanga’s home in Sunnyside, Blantyre.
A church service at St. Paul’s Church will precede the burial tomorrow at HHI Cemetery.

Kapanga succeeded the late Ngeyi Kanyongolo as Standard Bank board chairperson upon her retirement in 2023.
