SACCOs donate desks to CDSS in Zomba
As part of the International Credit Union Day celebrations, Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) under the Southern Region Chapter, also known as Chapter 1 SACCO, on Saturday donated 40 desks worth K7 million to Pirimiti Community Day Secondary School in Zomba.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Chapter 1 SACCO director Mphalulo Fatch said the gesture was part of a global initiative by credit unions to promote social and economic development.

He said: “Every year, SACCOs across the world commemorate this day through acts of giving. This year’s theme, ‘Cooperation for World Prosperity,’ underscores the importance of collective efforts toward uplifting communities.
“We have donated 40 desks, which will accommodate 80 learners. Though the donation may not meet all the school’s needs, we believe it will go a long way in easing their challenges and improving the learning environment.”

In his remarks, the headteacher of the school, Alfred Chasowa described the gesture as a major boost to the school.
“This school has long struggled with a shortage of desks. The coming of Chapter 1 SACCO marks a milestone in our development.

“The 40 desks will improve learning conditions for our 350 learners, though more support is still needed. And we appeal to other well-wishers to assist in improving the quality of education.”
Chapter 1 is made up of Mphunzitsi Sacco, Yathu Sacco, Mudi Sacco, Chilungamo Sacco, Polymed Sacco, Future Sacco, PCL Group Sacco, Sunbird Sacco and Sucoma Sacco.
