Chimzimu’s team wins Swedish league

Sweden-based Malawi women’s teenage football star Faith Chimzimu’s rosy world continued at the weekend when her team BK Hacken FF won the 2025 Women’s top-flight OBOS Damallsvenskan in her debut season.

The feat comes two weeks after the 18-year-old attacker scored a brace for the Scorchers against Angola to seal Malawi Women’s National Football Team’s maiden qualification to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Chimzimu: The gold is ours.

Hacken beat Djurgaden 2-0 on Saturday.

They top the 14-team league with an insurmountable 61 points from 25 matches, four points above second-placed Hammarby.

They both have a game remaining before winding up the season.

In an interview yesterday, Chimzimu said: “I am so glad to have won the championship in my debut season. It has come at the right time when I am still adapting.”

Chimzimu joined the Gothenburg-based side in July this year after signing a three-year deal from Lilongwe-based Ascent Academy and has made an instant impression.

In an interview, National Women’s Football Association chairperson Adellaide Migogo said Chimzimu has proved her worth at the Swedish club.

“She has made an instant impression, having scored in her debut recently in a Uefa Women’s Europa League qualifier. It shows that she is adding value and we are proud of her,” she said.

Chimzimu is the fourth Malawian to play in the Swedisg Women’s top-flight after the Chawinga sisters Temwa and Tabitha as well as Sabina Thom.
