Mighty Mukuru Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira has hailed MMM Sports Plus and Pyramid Costruction for introducing the Coach of the Month Award, saying it is motivating coaches.
He said this on Friday in Lilongwe after being named Coach of the Month for October.
During the ceremony, Silver Strikers Ladies’ coach Andrew Chikhosi was also honoured for his team’s outstanding performance in the National Bank of Malawi Women’s Premiership in which they have won all their nine first round matches.
Mpinganjira has become the first coach to win the award twice this season having also won the inaugural award in May.
He said the recognition was a timely boost as his team is currently topping the TNM Super League table and unbeaten in 21 matches.
“It couldn’t have come at a better time than now when we are chasing the league title,” said the Wanderers gaffer.
He thanked organisers of the award MMM Sports Plus and Pyramid Construction.
“This award has brought a new wave of energy among elite coaches. Every coach now wants to win it,” said Mpinganjira.
On his part, Chikhosi said: “This is not my award as Andrew Chikhosi. This is an award to the girls for the effort they are putting in to grind results and it is my hope that we will keep up the momentum heading into the second round.”
Pyrmaid Construction managing director Abel Chiumia said they are impressed with the impact of the the award.
“As sponsors, we can say so far so good and at the level we are moving, we might increase the package,” he said.
Chiumia said they decided to reward Chikhosi as an appreciation for the role coaches are playing in developing women football in the country. Mpinganjira and Chikhosi received K250 000 each and miniatures
