Bullets relieved after Fifa ban

FCB Nyasa Bullets acting chief executive officer Albert Chigoga says the club is relieved that Fifa has lifted the transfer ban it had imposed on them following the unfair termination of Zimbabwean midfielder Ronald Chitiyo’s contract last season.

The world football governing body had sanctioned Bullets after ruling in favour of Chitiyo, ordering the club to pay compensation to the player.

The lifting of the ban follows Bullets president Konrad Buckle’s settling of the $15 200 (about K29 million) compensation to Chitiyo.

Chigoga in an interview said the lifting of the ban was a relief to the club.

He said: “It is good news. Such bans do not only disturb transfer plans, but they also scare existing players in the squad.”

In a letter dated January 21 2026 to Bullets FC through Football Association of Malawi, Fifa confirmed that the ban had been lifted after Chitiyo received the full amount he was owed.

The letter reads in part: “We take note from the mentioned correspondence that the creditor has received the amount due by FCB Nyasa Bullets in accordance with the decision passed by a body, a committee, a subsidiary or an instance of Fifa.”

Meanwhile, football analyst Twaha Chimuka has urged clubs to learn from Bullets mistakes when terminating services of players or coaches.

He said: “I believe Bullets and other clubs have learnt the importance of following procedures when terminating contracts with players.

“I believe that from now onwards, all the clubs will act carefully when relieving players or even coaches from their duties as it has implications.”

The Fifa decision to lift the ban comes just after the January transfer window opened.

Chigoga said they will wait until the season concludes with the Castel Challenge Cup to evaluate the situation.

“We will have a meeting at the end of the season to chart the way forward about recruitment,” he said.
