Silver Strikers dominate FDH Bank Cup nominations

Players are battling it out in Player of the Tournament, Discovery of the Tournament, Best Goalkeeper and Top Goal Scorer awards.

However, the Top Goalscorer award has already been decided and will be shared by FCB Nyasa Bullets’ Babatunde Adepoju and Mchinji Villa’s Davie Juwawo with four goals each.

Meanwhile, Silver feature prominently in the remaining three categories.

In the Player of the Tournament race, Silver have two nominees in goalkeeper George Chikooka and defender Maxwell Paipi.

The duo will go head-to-head with Mighty Wanderers midfielder Blessings Singini.

Chikooka, who saved three penalties in the final’s penalties shootout, is touted for three clean sheets in five matches and conceding just two goals.

Singini, on the other hand, is described as having stirred Wanderers to the final.

Chikooka is also nominated in Goalkeeper of the Tournament category and will battle it out against Wanderers’ Dalitso Khungwa and Civil Service United’s Rahman John.

Khungwa impressed with decisive penalty saves en route to the final while John was instrumental in Civil’s run to the semi-finals, including a double penalty save in the Round of 32, according to FAM.

The bankers are also represented in the Discovery of the Tournament category through up-and-coming forward Andrew Yosefe.

The forward, who joined the club from Chitipa United just before the competition kicked off, made an immediate impact, scoring a crucial semi-final goal against Civil Service United to send Silver into the final.

He will contest the award alongside Mchinji Villa duo of Juwawo and Kelvin Mustafa.

Juwawo and Mustafa earn the nomination after guiding Villa to the quarter-finals, making them the only lower-division side to reach that stage.

Members of the media, coaches and analysts are expected to vote for the winners.
