The Scorchers face Ghana this evening at Municipal de Berrechid Stadium in Morocco in their last 2026 Women Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) warm-up match with coach Lovemore hoping to finalise on tactics and combinations.
In their last meeting during an international friendly match in Morocco on June 21 this year, the Malawi Women’s National Football Team lost 3-1 to Ghana.
In an interview yesterday, Fazili said with his squad now complete following the return of US-based free-scoring striker Temwa Chawinga after almost one-and-a-half years’ absence, they are now “good to go”.
The warm-up match comes before the Scorchers face holders and record 10-time champions Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their Group C opener at Stade El Barid on July 28.
“We are well prepared for our last friendly game tomorrow [today] and we are expecting to do well, the focus though is to loosen the tight ends,” he said.
“The coming in of Temwa is a major boost to the team as it gives us confidence of scoring many goals. Her combination with other forwards such as her elder sister Tabitha and Rose Kabzere [who are based in France] makes our attacking line formidable.”
However, Fazili said while they have strength up-front, they have to be cautious at the back.
In the Wafcon finals, the Scorchers are in Group C alongside Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt.
The Malawi Women’s National Football Team qualified for Wafcon finals in October 2025 with a 2-0 aggregate win over Angola in their last qualifying round.
Since then, they have so far played 10 games, seven friendlies and three Cosafa Women’s Cup matches, registerering two wins, two draws and six defeats.
In their last five international friendly matches, they drew once against Tanzania and lost to Australia, India, Tanzania and Morocco.
This evening’s fixture against Ghana follows the Scorchers’ 2-1 loss to Morocco last Friday.
