In a message posted on its official social media platforms, Cosafa praised the two regional representatives for their outstanding performances.

Malawi’s historic victory was inspired by the returning Temwa Chawinga, who marked her first appearance for the Scorchers since 2024 with a brace.

Her sister Tabitha  was also on the scoresheet as the Scorchers stunned the Super Falcons.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Alfred Gangata also joined thousands of Malawians in celebrating the Scorchers’ memorable win.

“My People Football. Congratulations to our mighty Scorchers on a fantastic 3-2 victory! What a remarkable performance, determination, passion, and teamwork at their very best. Zikutheka! 3-2 is no joke. Keep making Malawi proud!” Gangata wrote on Facebook page.

Following Tuesday’s results, Zambia lead Group C on goal difference, with Malawi occupying second place.

The Scorchers might secure a place in the quarter-finals if they beat Egypt in their next group match Saturday with victory giving them a chance to progress either as group winners or runners-up.
