The weight behind the preferred women’s big butt

It is a fact that many women obsess over their bodies, trying hard to look the way some men would prefer. Word on the street is that the bigger a woman’s behind, the more attention she gets from men, the more attractive she is, the more authentic she is as an African and, generally, the more her marital prospects. Indeed, there are men who glorify huge bums to the extent of formulating such a mindset in others through discussions among themselves or even on social media.

Why, even some women have bought into the idea and those endowed feel superior to the ‘plank buttock’. They have this aura of entitlement and monopoly on beauty, as they seek attention with every move. Most capitalise on those moments when everyone is seated in church, wedding halls or conference rooms to catwalk down the aisle, allowing their behinds to do the talking for them. Oh, and talking these trailers do — leaving wives with roving husbands visibly uncomfortable as they side-eye the ‘gift’.

Listen, there is nothing wrong with valuing one’s assets and anyone preferring endowed women. There are women, too, who prefer certain male physiques. But it becomes problematic when both parties obsess over it.

Now, the flip side to all this ‘weight’ following one around everywhere, daily, is not easy. Once the lights are out and the attraction fades, packaging that pound of flesh for a good night’s sleep becomes too much work. Even sharing a bed with such a mass trailing a bedfellow is not for the faint-hearted. Most women I know dread a big behind because it’s generally uncomfortable to carry around and it interferes with daily private routines. Choosing the right outfits to accommodate it is another trial, apart from turning heads wherever one goes. These looks are accompanied by rowdy comments. This is not to mention the pressure on knee ligaments and hips that are in constant pain from the heavy duty.

So before you admonish ‘flat’ behinds, please realise that not all women are the same. It does not make any woman less or more in any aspect just because of a big butt. It is this same perception of glorifying big buttocks that drives many women under the surgeon’s knife to get a Brazilian Butt Lift to fit in, be accepted and look better. Some punish themselves in the gym with squats, dead-weight lifts and planks to push the behind further out. That ain’t cool. And women should learn to accept themselves just the way they are, no pressure.

No look should be adopted or altered to benefit someone else. The image in the mirror must first satisfy the woman in it before it overflows elsewhere. What’s the point in assuming a big butt will attract the opposite sex and then living with the agony thereafter?
