Bingu’s body arrives Thursday
The body of Malawi’s late president Bingu wa Mutharika is expected to be repatriated to Malawi this Thursday and burial is expected over the next weekend.
A source said government, through the Secretary to the President and Cabinet (SPC) Bright Msaka, was expected to make the official announcement this Monday.
Chairperson of a ministerial committee instituted to handle the funeral arrangements, Henry Mussa, while not confirming the Thursday and burial dates, said President Joyce Banda, as per her earlier promise, appointed a main and sub committees to oversee the funeral.
Meanwhile, the first casualty of the post-Mutharika era has been Inspector General of Police Peter Mukhito, who has been immediately replaced with headquarters-based and one of the longest-serving officers Commissioner (administration) Loti Dzonzi.
National police public relations officer Davie Chingwalu confirmed the development last night.
