Police, immigration in anti-fraud drive

The US Government, through the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) on Wednesday concluded training on fraudulent document recognition for Malawi Police and Immigration officers.

“Through presentations and practical exercises, participants were able to further develop their skills in characteristics of altered, counterfeit, and fraudulent travel documents used to further the cross-border movement of individuals, currency and or goods by criminal and terrorist organisations,” said David Cowhig, US Public Affairs officer.—SINGAYAZI KAMINJOLO, Staff Reporter

 

Herbalist jailed for raping client

A 53-year-old herbalist in Mzimba has been jailed to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for raping his 19-year-old client. Mzimba Police spokesperson Gift Nyirongo, on Monday, identified the convict as Griffin Vitima Mlenje of Jimu Mlenje Village, Traditional Authority Chindi. “The herbalist told the victim that he saw some problems in her body, which needed some charms.” When she arrived at his home, she was forced to have sex with him. —GEORGE SINGINI, Staff Reporter
