The Association of Business Journalists (ABJ), a grouping of business journalists in Malawi, says it has learnt with shock and deep sorrow the passing of former chief executive officer of Roads Fund Administration (RFA) Hennox Mazengera.

In a statement, ABJ technical adviser Frank Phiri paid tribute to Mazengera for his role in helping business journalism flourish during his time at the Society of Accountants in Malawi (Socam).

Mazengera was the first professional executive director of Socam, one of the longest serving officers of the accountancy body’s secretariat in Blantyre, according to Phiri.

“While at Socam, Mr Mazengera worked closely with business journalists through timely sharing of information regarding the accountancy profession and its role in shaping the Malawi economy.

“In the early 2000, Mazengera was also instrumental in promoting corporate governance in Malawi through the business press, by among other things, explaining its significance in the corporate world and bringing into local context the downfall of Enron and Worldcom, some of the most famous corporate governance-related scandals in the world,” he said.

ABJ has extended its condolences to the Mazengera family, members of Socam and employees of RFA at this most difficult time as they deal with his passing.
