African film stars to attend Malawi Film Awards
Filmmakers from Nigeria and Ghana have confirmed their attendance at the Film Association of Malawi (Fama) Malawi Film Awards and Gala, scheduled for December 19 at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe.
Among the confirmed guests are Ghanaian actresses Juliet Ibrahim and Nigerian actors Ada Kirikiri and Osuagu Victor, who will be accompanied by the president of the Nigerian Actors Guild Emeka Rollas. South African actor Zolisa Xaluva was also recently announced as a confirmed attendee, adding further regional star power to the event.

Fama president Dorothy Kingston said the gala is aimed at celebrating Malawian talent while providing a platform for interaction with accomplished regional and international film personalities.
“The event is for all Malawians. It is an opportunity for local filmmakers, actors and enthusiasts to meet people who inspire them and learn from their experiences,” she said.
Kingston added that the awards night will include film screenings, networking sessions and masterclasses, all designed to help local creatives improve their craft and gain exposure in the regional film industry.
Kingston also appealed to the public and private sector to support the event, saying their involvement is crucial to ensuring its success and long-term impact on Malawi’s film industry.
Filmmaker and festival coordinator Phil Kuipa Phiri said they are optimistic that this year’s Malawi Film Awards and Gala will provide a valuable opportunity for local actors and filmmakers to learn, network and gain exposure.
“We see this as a platform for our talent to connect with experienced industry players and explore new avenues for growth,” he said.
The gala will also include music performances and other activities lined up for the day.
