Malamulo Ndiko Kwathu Alumni Group on Sunday donated 71 chairs worth K4 million to Malamulo Secondary School in Makwasa, Thyolo.

Speaking during the presentation of the donation, the group’s chairperson Madalitso Njolomole said their donation will enhance a conducive learning environment at the school.

He said: “We are grateful for the education we received at Malamulo Secondary School and we believe we have to give back. It has been set as a standard that every year we have a project to assist at the school.

“Last year, we acquired 70 desks and we recognise that the desks alone cannot adequately serve the students, so we decided to complement them with chairs.”

Njolomole said next year they will come back to assist with beddings.

“We are committed to ensuring the provision of mattresses and television screens for educational purposes. Additionally, we pledge to award K200 000 to any student who scores more than 10 points in the Malawi School Certificate of Education examination while the teacher whose subjects students excel in the exams will be rewarded with a laptop computer,” he said.

The school’s principal Maziko Kathamalo thanked the former students for the gesture.

“The impact of such donations goes beyond the physical items themselves. It sends a powerful message to our current students that their education is valued and it motivates them to strive for excellence and we are truly fortunate to have such dedicated and supportive alumni,” he said.

The school’s head boy Given Samuel said the donation from the alumni will motivate to work hard in their studies.
