An angry neighbour in Chilobwe township in Blantyre is in police custody after allegedly burning the buttocks of a five-year-old boy for perpetually messing her yard with faeces.

Blantyre Police assistant spokesperson Lameck Thembachako said yesterday Gloria Banda took the child as he relieved himself in her side of the compound and placed him on a charcoal burner to punish him for the ‘crime.’

Thembachako said other neighbours and the boy’s mother heard the wailing of the boy and upon inspection they found him severely burnt.

“Many people gathered at Banda’s house and she fled. She has since been arrested and charged with an act occasioning bodily harm,” he said.

Thembachako said reports from neighbours showed that Banda has been complaining about the boy’s habit of leaving his mother’s side of the yard to relieve himself in hers.
