Armstrong, Fatima trash dating stories

Local urban music star Armstrong and the country’s Big Brother The Chase representative Fatima Nkata, have dispelled reports making rounds that they are dating and are set to engage next month.

Social media especially Facebook has been awash with updates that the two are set to get engaged on August 3.

“It’s a lie and many people have been asking me about this.  We have and will continue being friends. Our friendship dates way back even before she left for Big Brother,” explained Armstrong.

The musician believes the rumours started after a chance-meeting with Fatima after she came back from Big Brother.

“Fatima was lodging at Mount Soche Hotel the day she arrived. I was attending a business meeting and we bumped into each other. As friends we started chatting and so maybe people spotted us and started spreading these malicious lies,” said Armstrong.

He said the two have made it known upon noting how fast the rumours were spreading that they are just friends.

“People, write what’s true. Don’t take pride in falsehood. I wonder why some pages on Facebook like posting what’s not true thereby tarnishing innocent people’s images,” lamented Armstrong.

Fatima warned those spreading these unfounded lies that the act is tantamount to defamation.

“There have been a lot of unfounded stories written about me before, during and after my stay in the BBA house. I’ve always believed that in the spirit of exercising our rights, everyone can speak their minds and voice their opinions. But my question is where do we draw the line between exercising our rights and infringing on other people’s rights. What does the law say about this?

“Can someone seriously just wake up in the morning and decide to fabricate a story about you and go scot-free? Defamation of character is a serious issue in this country and it must be addressed. The bulk of the responsibility lies with media practitioners and those that claim to be media practitioners yet are of questionable credibility. When we put out our stories let’s remember that we have a responsibility to society,” she vented.
