Assailants shoot boy dead, injure 2 in Dedza
Three unidentified assailants on Sunday night shot dead Sadreck Daud, 12, of Kaphuka Village in Traditional Authority (T/A) Chauma in Dedza District.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, Kaphuka Community Policing Forum chairperson James Kampangire said the assailants broke into the house the boy was sleeping in.
He said Daud was taken to Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe where he died while receiving treatment. He was buried on Monday at Ngalu Village, T/A Chauma in Dedza.
“The incident happened around 2am when we were asleep after patrolling the area,” said Kampangire.
He added that robbery cases are rampant in the area, citing an unidentified suspect who was burnt when he attempted to break into a house last week.
“There have been such cases since April this year,” he said.
Kampangire said the nearest police formation is Linthipe Police Unit; hence, the available security is the community policing forum.
The boy’s father Daud Dikamba, said he was heartbroken. “I never expected it. I ask police as well as community policing members to urgently apprehend the people who killed my son. I want justice for my child,” he said.
When asked about his whereabouts when the incident happened, Dikamba said he was at Ngalu Village.
“My son went to visit his grandfather who owns a tea room,” he said.
In a separate interview, Khoche Primary School head teacher Enock Saxon said Daud, a Standard Two pupil, went to visit his grandfather at Kaphuka Village.
He said: “While there, the assailants broke into a house he and others were sleeping.
“They shot him and injured two others with pangas; an eight-year-old child and a 21-year-old woman.”
Dedza Police Station deputy spokesperson Brenda Yasin said they were not aware of the incident.
