Itching for a showdown: Balakasi

Zomba-based boxer Wellington Balakasi is in Lilongwe to face lightweight champion Crispin Moliati in a 10-round bout to be staged at the Summit Cultural Centre.

Balakasi, who lost to Moliati in Salima through TKO before Army Commander Henry Odillo in the Inter Unit Sports Festival is seeking revenge.

“We have prepared well for this fight. I believe Balakasi will win this time around. He has been training for the past two weeks,” said Balakasi’s manager and spokesperson Lt Colonel Alfred Kuyenda from Zomba.

Moliati has added on weight to 64 kilogrammes to match Balakasi.

“For sure, it is going to be a tough fight. Balakasi has experience and a fast punch, but I will beat him as I did in Salima. Despite his experience, he is an impulse fighter, which will play to my advantage,” said Moliati.

The fight, organised by Gomez Boxing Promotions, will see the winner pocketing K100 000 and the loser K80 000. Charges are K1 000 per head.

Meanwhile, Chimwemwe Chiotcha has challenged Limbani Msamba for the welterweight belt.

“Since he defeated Osgood Kayuni he has been talking tough. He has irritated me to the point of willing to reduce weight to face him. Akudelera uniform, ndimukhazika pansi,” said a visibly angry Chiotcha.
