BB ‘keeper Kakhobwe out for three weeks

Nyasa Big Bullets have been dealt a blow following the injury of their first-choice goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe.

The Flames second-choice goalkeeper will be out of action for three weeks nursing an ankle ligament injury.

The former Azam Tigers ‘keeper suffered the knock during a TNM Super League second-round match against Chitipa United at Chilomoni Stadium in Blantyre over the weekend which Bullets won 2-0.

Big Bullets assistant coach Elia Kananji said they have reserve and second choice goalkeepers.

He said: “Of course we will miss his services him being our first choice goalkeeper. But we have the second choice ‘keeper Rabson Chienda.

“This gives him [Chienda] a chance to prove that he is also capable of delivering in the absence of the first choice ‘keeper.”

In a related development Bullets have said the club is not in a crisis following the pending expiry of contracts for defenders Pilirani Zonda, George Nyirenda and captain John Lanjesi in five months’ time.

The reaction follows reports that the players refused to sign new contracts.

“There is no single contract crisis at Bullets and all the players are focused on helping the team to do well in the remaining competitions,” said Bullets general secretary Albert Chigoga. n
