Muhuwa cherishes S. Africa body-building tourney
Ulayaclassic runner-up Emmanuel ‘Muscle Manze’ Muhuwa has said he has learnt a lot from his participation at the Gentle Giant Classic and Arnold Classic Africa qualifiers in Witbank, South Africa on September 16.
Though he did not qualify for next year’s final after finishing on position seven in the 80 kilogrammes category, Muhuwa said the competition was an eye-opener.
He said: “It was great to compete for the first time at an international stage even though it was at a short notice. I was told [about my participation] just four days before the competition but I tried my best.
“What I have learned from South Africa is that our counterparts are serious out there and we need to work hard to reach their level. Those guys have proper diet and they workout with passion.”
Muhuwa thanked Ulayaclassic organiser, Charles Ulaya, for supporting him to travel to South Africa.
“It was a very humbling experience and a good push for my career. I just want to take this moment to thank my God for the opportunity. I also thank Charles Ulaya of the Ulayaclassic for believing in me and gifting me with the opportunity to chase my dream,” he said.
Meanwhile, the weight-lifter has said he is training hard in preparation for the 2017 edition of the Ulayaclassic.
Ulaya said he is proud of Muhuwa for finishing in top 10 at his debut international tourney.
“We wanted him to have a feel of what it is like to compete at high level,” he said. n
