Government is now set to start construction of Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers stadia after the Public of Procurement and Disposal of Assets Authority granted of no-objection to hire a contractor.

Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Francis Phiso on Friday confirmed the development, but could not divulge more details, saying they will be published in the press within the week.

Said the minister: “Yes, we are now set for the project and we are excited, but I cannot comment on the other details unless they are published in the press in form of advertisements which should be done in the next few days.”

However, Weekend Nation has established that the project will cost about K6 billion for both stadiums.

We also established that China Civil Engineering Construction and Anhui Foreign Economic Construction (Group) Company were the successful bidders.

Anhui also constructed Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

The ministry’s spokesperson Simon Mbvundula said the bid was opened on March 27 and a week later, the bid documents were submitted to ODPP.

Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga said: “This is great news. It clears the cloud of uncertainty. “

The People’s Team was allocated a piece of land at Moneymen along Chikwawa Road and the Nomads near Kanjedza Forest.

The projects were allocated K1.6 billion in the 2019/20 National Budget.
