Be positive change agents, professional women told
Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) Vice-Chancellor Nancy Chitera has challenged professional women to be agents of positive change in their respective work places.
Speaking on Saturday in Mangochi during the Professional Women’s Conference organised by Institute of Chartered Accountants in Malawi (Icam), she said this will enable them to make significant contribution towards the country’s socio-economic development.
The conference was held under the theme: ‘Breaking the glass ceiling: Enhancing the uniqueness in women’.
Chitera, an associae professor of mathematics education, observed that the women in various professional bodies have an important role to enhance make meaningful change to benefit the entire nation.
She said: “It is important that woman make a difference in the society. Professional women should therefore strive to use their skills to make positive on the nation. This can be achieved if women highly focus on their profession and embrace team work.
“Women in various therefore need to continue pushing on the agenda to increase their participation on the decision making table.”
In her remarks, Forum for Women Accounts in Malawi president Akonda Supuni Yakobe said the professional women, including women accountants, are geared towards ensuring that they adhere to making positive change to contribute to the country’s development.
She said: “As professional women, we understand and believe that we have to continuously make a difference in or portfolios.
“We thus commit to becoming difference makers and enhance our uniqueness in our respective work places for the good of our country.
“We also believe that we have to be accountable and competent. We will thus strive to continue to adhere to this.”
During the conference, a number of women professionals were recognised for their inspiration and personal contributions in positive advancement of women participation in the accountancy profession.
