Big Bullets make Airtel Top-8 call

Nyasa Big Bullets have reached the Airtel Top-8 semi-finals with an 8-1 aggregate win over Karonga United.

Bullets won 7-0 in the first leg at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre three weeks ago and yesterday the two sides played out a one-all draw at Karonga Stadium.

The People’s Team made the intent of progressing clear in the first half as Hassan Kajoke capitalised on defence lapses in the fourth minute to score.

They continued to dominate in the match for the next 26 minutes. Then the hosts dominated the last 15 minutes.

Come the second half, Karonga were charged. And it was not surprising when they equalised in the 61st minute through Mphatso Kamanga from a Sherriff Shamama’s corner kick.

The Airtel Top-8 quarter-final second leg continues today with Mighty Mukuru Wanderers facing Mafco at Chitowe Stadium in Dwangwa.

The Nomads beat Mafco 2-0 in the first leg at Kamuzu Stadium three weeks ago.

Bullets will meet the winners between Kamuzu Barracks and Silver Strikers.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Bullets coach Kallisto Pasuwa said it is great that they have progressed to the next level of the competition.

“It was a good game against Karonga although somehow the officiation was questionable. It is good that we have won and we are looking forward to great things,” he said.

On the other hand, Karonga coach Christopher Nyambose thanked his charges for a good game despite being out of the race.

“We played well today. We outplayed them in many areas. It is sad that we lost the first leg with a wide margin,” he said.
