A charity call has forced the country’s top reggae outfit Black Missionaries to cut short their annual holiday in aid of Mark Kumwembe, who is in need of kidney transplant treatment in India.

The Black Missionaries will share the stage with their ally Anthony Makondetsa and Soul Raiders Band at Lilongwe Golf Club in Lilongwe on January 25.

The show has been pegged at K2 000 per person and will kick-start at 1pm.

Organisers, who have called themselves Friends of Mark, have also organised a seven-aside football tournament at National Bank Moneymen Club in Blantyre on Saturday.

Each team is expected to make a contribution of not less than K25 000 ($50).

In an interview yesterday, Black Missionaries frontman Anjiru Fumulani said the reggae band finds it important to hold shows like these as part of their mission to help those in need.

“We are not only entertainers, but it is also our responsibility as musicians to help out wherever we can,” said Anjiru.

He added that they do not charge for charity shows, but normally ask the organisers to take care of logistics.

Mark Kumwembe was diagnosed with kidney failure and needs treatment in India.
