Christians from Blantyre will today (Sunday) gather at Saint Michael and All Angels Hall in Blantyre for the 2014 Global Day of Prayer under the theme: “The glory of Christ and the Blessings of the Nations”.

One of the prayer organisers, Gomezgani Nyirenda, said the focus will be on thanking God for the blessings the country has experienced and praying for the body of Christ which is the Church.

He said people will also pray for the new government, climate change, a transformed economy and foreign relations.

“We will also dedicate the 50 years anniversary slated for next month; pray for political, church, traditional leaders and those in various institutions to make good policies befitting Malawians; and the work of the church in Malawi and the world as well as the civil service organizations (CSOs),” said Nyirenda.

Nyirenda said the prayers started in 2000 when God spoke through South African Christian businessperson Graham Power in July with a vision based on 2 Chronicles 7 verses 14.

Christians from all denominations were called in Cape Town for a Day of Repentance and Prayer at Newsland Rugby Stadium, challenge Christians across the rest of South Africa to unite.

Malawi began participating in 2005 at Kamuzu Stadium under the theme: “Transformation Africa”.
