Blantyre-based Nanzikambe Arts Theatre was on Friday evening forced to showcase their play The Blood Knot in the bar at the Nanzikambe Arts Café in Naperi after rains soaked the open stands of the arena.

The rains started a few minutes before the performance was due to commence and the patrons that braved the rains had to squeeze and sit under tree branches, but the leaves could hardly shield them from the deluge.

This prompted the organisers to suspend the curtain-raiser performance for a new stage set up in the bar.

As usual, Misheck Mzumara, who performs as Moris, and Vincent Maluwa, who plays Zachariah, gave out their best drawing the audience into total silence of attention which was only interrupted by applause and laughter.

However, the heavy rains that continued to pour, affected activities in the bar as the roof started to leak.

Some people had to watch the final part of the play while soaked by the leakage.

After the performance, Mzumara said they will work on the leakage.

“We do not frequently use the bar for our performances. We did it because we were in a fix and could not use our main stage. We usually demarcate the main stage and patrons sit on one side and we use the other side. The main stage does not leak,” said Mzumara.
