The Malawi Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association (Wabam) has announced that it will send four athletes to the 2014 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow, Scotland.

Wabam president Richard Kuwali said this on Tuesday following what he called consultation and examination by the technical panel.

He said the panel approved four names after wide consultations.

“We are sending three men and a female to the games,” said Kuwali.

The three male athletes are Mosted Simwela who will compete in the 94 kilogrammes category, John Phiri in the 69 kilogrammes, Brito Mota in the 56kg category and the female athlete, Stella Kamanga will compete in 53kg.

Kuwali added that the national coach Chimwemwe Bakali is monitoring progress of training so they produce tangible results that would impress Malawi National Sports Council and Malawi Olympic Committee (MOC).

The athletes will hold camp in London for three weeks before flying to Scotland for the games.

Kuwali said his athletes will benefit from the excellent facilities of Gloucestershire University where they will be holding camp.

Meanwhile, the Sports Council has promised to release money to Wabam for a series of bodybuilding competitions.
