Flames hoping to tune up on July 6

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has said it is keeping its fingers crossed that government will include an international friendly should there be activities to mark the country’s 50th Anniversary of Independence Celebrations on July 6.

FAM chief executive officer Suzgo Nyirenda said the match would be the opportunity for the Flames to prepare for their 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final preliminary round, first leg against Benin.

“As at now, we have no money to cater for Flames preparations and there is no Fifa calendar date between now and the time we face Benin,” said Nyirenda.

But he said they are yet to get communication from Sports Council on this year’s July 6 celebrations.

Council executive secretary George Jana said they were also yet to get communication from government on the same.
