Super League of Malawi (Sulom) president Innocent Bottoman has declared that he will seek to be re-elected when Sulom goes to the polls next month.

Treasurer Tiya Somba-Banda has also expressed interest to seek re-election, so too, general secretary Williams Banda.

However, according to The Nation findings, Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) treasurer and former Silver Strikers vice-chairperson Daudi Ntanthiko is contemplating to challenge Bottoman for the hot seat while Silver general secretary Mike Tembo has expressed interest to challenge Banda for the GS position.

Bottoman yesterday confirmed that he will seek re-election to complete his mission of improving the domestic league.

“Based on my performance and indeed that of my entire team, I can confirm that I will seek re-election because I have some unfinished business such as achieving my dream to turn the league into a professional entity and to help the clubs to turn commercial,” he said.

He added: “We are also in the process of engaging the sponsors, TNM, to consider addressing some of the concerns raised by our affiliates such as reviewing the prize money.”

Among others, Bottoman cited reduction in cases of violence in the just-ended season as one of his achievements.

“Despite lack of adequate venues, we were also able to finish the league within the prescribed calendar,” he said, adding that winning the confidence of the sponsor by renewing the league’s contract, was another feat.

“But there is still room for improvement and much as we are on track in our mission to ensure that clubs have contract with players, we want to see to it that they embrace professionalism in their operations, especially in the area of player transfer,” he said.

Somba-Banda confirmed that he will seek re-election and Ntanthiko yesterday confirmed that he is consulting on prospects of running for presidency.

“I have indeed been approached by some people to consider vying for the presidency, but I am still consulting,” he said.

On his part, Tembo said: “I can confirm that the rumour has substance.”
