Kamuzu Barracks (KB) move five places up the ladder, Blue Eagles barely survive at the summit, Big Bullets’ unbeaten run ends whereas Azam Tigers continue to make history.

Such is the state of affairs after week seven of the 2013 Super League season.

Meanwhile, army teams Red Lions and KB players’ determination to be promoted in the Malawi Defence Force saw them thumping Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers.

The Lions’ Chikoti Chirwa and Dickson Mbetewa Junior’s goals handed Bullets their first defeat of the season as The People’s Team slumped to third on 15 points, two behind Blue Eagles who lost 3-0 to Civo United on Sunday.

Bullets’ inferior goal aggregate paved the way for KB whose 2-1 and 3-0 beatings of Blantyre United and Wanderers on Sunday and Monday respectively sees the soldiers move from seventh to second also on 15 points.

The Nomads are seventh, down from position five. History makers Tigers collected four points in Lilongwe at the weekend, edging Epac FC 1-0 through Isaac Kaliyati’s goal before holding defending champions Silver Strikers 0-0. The Bankers remain ninth on nine points.

By now the Kau Kau, who have become the first team this decade to preserve a clean sheet in seven games on the trot, should have been leading the standings, but they are being undermined by five draws.

Tigers lie fifth on 13 points. Football administrator Sunduzwayo Madise and Super League of Malawi official statistician Patrick Chisale could not remember the last time a domestic club managed that feat.

“There have been incidences where teams such as MDC United and Bata Bullets finished a season without a loss, but not conceding in seven games? That is outstanding,” said Madise.

Deus Nkutu of Moyale Barracks remains the leading scorer on four goals. Mzuzu United anchor the table on two points from seven matches.
