Bullets opt for Champs League

FCB Nyasa Bullets have said they have opted to join the CAF Champions League other than the CAF Confederation Cup.

In an interview yesterday, Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga said: “Being the national champions, the Champions League is our preferred choice.”

But FAM club licensing and compliance manager Casper Jangale said in an interview yesterday that they were yet to get official communication from Bullets.

Chigoga: It is our preferred choice

He said: “But if they have chosen the Champions League, then [Mighty] Mukuru Wanderers will get the Confederation Cup slot, having won the Airtel Top 8.”

Jangale also said they expect to get letters of engagement on  2023/24 continental tournaments from CAF anytime soon.

At the end of last season, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) announced that the People’s Team would have the luxury to choose which continental tournament to join, having won both the TNM Super League title as well as the FDH Bank Cup, which was then the only national cup.

Bullets then said they needed to consult and review their participation before commiting, especially having failed to make it past the preliminary stage in the past four editions.

Meanwhile, the Nomads president Thomson Mpinganjira yesterday said the club president’s committee and the newly-appointed chief executive officer will be tasked to make a final decision on the issue.

The Nomads last participated in a continental tournament in 2028 when they were booted out by AS Vita of Democratic Republic of Congo 5-1 on aggregate, an adventure that left them with a K60 million debt.
