Chinyama: We can pull out

Big Bullets have threatened to pull out of the Super League should Sulom not allow them a blanket gate entry fees increase for their games.

The team’s chairperson Malinda Chinyama said this in reaction to Sulom general secretary Williams Banda’s statement that they cannot be allowed a blanket gate-entry increase from K200 (50 US cents) to K500 (about $1.25) for their games.

Said Chinyama: “Sulom are being unfair probably because they do not know the financial constraints we are facing to run the club.

“So, our position remains that we are going ahead to implement the new gate entry fee as was agreed by the executive committee. If they [Sulom] stick to their guns, then we will not mind pulling out of the league to take part in cup competitions.”

He also said his club boasts the biggest fan base on the land and, therefore, it has the capacity to raise gate-entry fees.

“Our supporters know the financial constraints that the club is facing and we briefed them on the move through the supporters committee,” said Chinyama.

However, reacting to BB’s threat, Banda said the issue of gate charges was agreed during a pre-season meeting which Sulom had with clubs.

“All teams need to be treated equally. If Bullets want special consideration, then let them put their request in writing,” said Banda.

A Blantyre-based BB fan Rhodrick Walesi said while the K500 would be on the higher side, a true Bullets fan should be able to sacrifice that much for the good of the team.
