FCB Nyasa Bullets stand proudly as the team that offers the highest game bonus to its players in the country.

Weekend Nation has established that the People’s Team pay their players K80 000 each for a win and nothing for a draw or loss.

Bullets players are the highest game bonus earners

An inside source also disclosed that the club, which swept all silverware last season, has proposed a 25 percent increment to K100 000 to the club’s board.

Said the source: “But when there are crucial games, the bonus can shoot up to K200 000 each player depending on the opponent and the importance of a fixture.”

In an interview, Bullets chief administration officer Albert Chigoga could neither confirm nor deny the figures, saying: “What I can say is that the aim is to make our players always motivated to win matches.”

Ironically, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Silver Strikers players get K60 000 each for a win and nothing for a draw or loss.

But a source at Lali Lubani Road said a proposal has been made to management to consider increasing the amount to K100 000.

Civil Service United pay their players K50 000 for a win and half the amount for a draw, but an official who asked for anonymity said a proposal to increase the amount to K75 000 has been sent to the board and they await its response.

Newly-promoted Creck United players have been offered K50 000 for a win.

“But it will vary in accordance to matches. Games involving the big teams are most likely to attract a higher bonus to motivate the players,” said a source.

Mighty Tigers players get K20 000 each for a win and nothing for a draw or loss.

Chitipa United, who punched above their weight to finish a respectable fourth position last season, give their players K10 000 for a win and half the amount for a draw.

Weekend Nation also established the other community teams such as Karonga and Dedza Dynamos as well as Malawi Defence Force teams do not have fixed game bonuses as they largely depend on gate takings.

In an interview yesterday, Football analyst Charles Nyirenda said game bonuses play a crucial role in motivating players.

He said: “Well, money is talking very good across the world. In modern times be it in politics, sports and within households, money is a key motivator.

“And evidence is readily available to support the assertion that the higher players are rewarded through juicy bonuses, the better the results they churn out.

“All successful teams in Europe pay players handsomely with fat bonuses. Even in Africa, the likes of TP Mazembe, Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns do the same to incentivise  positive results.

“So, it goes without saying that higher bonuses push players to go an extra mile in the quest to secure victory in every match.”
