Speaking after receiving the donation, the First Lady expressed her gratitude, noting that the funds will significantly bolster the trust’s efforts to ensure public facilities remain clean and hygienic.
“I wish to extend my sincere gratitude to Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and Prophetess Mary Bushiri for honouring their pledge,” she said. “At Beam, our mission is clear: to ensure improved sanitation across all public spaces.”
Mutharika further called on Malawians to support the initiative, adding: “I call upon every citizen to join us in restoring our nation’s glory by beautifying our homes, schools, hospitals and communities.
In an interview, Bushiri noted that he and his wife Mary were moved to support the initiative after witnessing the trust’s tangible impact.
“This donation fulfils our commitment to bolster the trust’s efforts in creating a healthier environment for all,” he said.
The K300 million contribution marks a milestone for the 2026–2030 strategy, which focuses on health, sanitation and education.
Under this roadmap, Beam is adopting public health facilities to rehabilitate dilapidated infrastructure and provide essential sanitation supplies.
To date, the Trust has adopted several hospitals, including Bwaila District Hospital in Lilongwe, Mzuzu Urban Community Hospital, Balaka, Thyolo, and Rumphi district hospitals.—The Nation
