The ECG Jesus Nation Church has praised its former Pastor McDonald Mlaka Maliro’s new song Vinyo Watha.

In a statement signed by ECG Jesus Nation Church Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s spokesperson Ephraim Nyondo, the church says its leader loves the song immensely and finds it to be a great work of art.

“The prophet understands that when a great composer such as Pastor Mlaka Maliro sits down to create a song, he gets inspired by so many things,” writes Nyondo.

The spokesperson adds that  Bushiri feels that whatever inspired Pastor Mlaka to write the song, he strongly believes that his motives must be respected.

In part the song goes: “They have no wine. Vinyo watha, atsala ndi masanje musapusitsike palibe chilipo, musakomedwe ndi sweet talk mwana wanga chonde anthuwa vinyo watha,. Kulalika zikutheka, kunenela molapitsa komatu vinyo watha, mzimu oyera akamachoka, amachoka mwa ulemu poti satsanzika..akutsatila zozizwa poti uko mkulikulu komatu vinyo watha…”

On the pastor-cum-musician’s decision to quit the church, the church disputed Mlaka’s account of issues, saying the pastor quit after disciplinary issues concerning his wife.

The church’s position is in sharp contrast to what pastor Mlaka told this publication that he quit to be close to his family which was resident in Malawi while he was alone in e-Swatini, formerly Swaziland.

When asked to comment on the claims by ECG, Mlaka said: “Let me keep quiet for now. Our position with my wife is that we won’t say anything for now. One day God will reveal what happens behind the pulpit.”

Mlaka Maliro was a pastor at ECG for three years. He is also a renowned musician with hits such as Kamandidutsadutsa, Dzanja Lalemba and Maloto.
