Kunkeyani briefs partners on the old water supply system

“We came here to appreciate the water situation. We raised K8. 9 million to rehabilitate the water supply system which we are commissioning today,” he said on Saturday during the handover ceremony.

Mchinji district environmental health officer Robson Kayira said  three taps were working at the facility which serves about 48 000 people.

Fresh Water Project International country managing director Henwick Kunkeyani said the pipes were not functioning due to corrosion.

“The pipes were rusty and the best solution was to replace them. Now every tap in every department is running,” he said.

Kunkeyani said the new supply system consists of two 5 000-litre water tanks that can serve for about 100 years.  n
