The People’s Party (PP) has embarked on a campaign to sell Malawi President Joyce Banda and the party for next year’s elections.

The newly appointed chairperson for Banda’s 2014 Presidential Campaign Committee, Uladi Mussa, said on Saturday that the campaign, which has just started, is led by Cabinet ministers and members of the party’s national governing council.

Last week, several ministers conducted 13 rallies in the North and another 18 in the Central Region articulating Banda’s agenda and selling her as presidential candidate in 2014.

Mussa was speaking in Nkhata Bay North West Constituency, where he was selling Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Ralph Kasambara as PP’s candidate for the 2014 Parliamentary Elections.

Said Mussa: “Next week, we shall be in the South. This is a campaign that we have started and is led by all Cabinet ministers. All provincial chairpersons are also part of the leading team. This is just a start. After Parliament, we shall have these rallies every week until 20 May.”

Selling Kasambara in his home constituency, Mussa said: “Support people with high value. Honourable Kasambara is one of them. He is the only one that sits in Parliament but does not vote. During voting time, he is just quiet thinking about you people here.”

Kasambara said the rallies are meant to explain to people Banda’s programmes and what is contained in the 2013/2014 proposed National Budget.

He said the rallies are also meant to get support for the party and urging shadow candidates and aspirants to come out.
