Zimbabwean top football outfit Caps United has pledged to bring a full-strength squad for next month’s Zambezi Challenge Cup that will involve three local teams.

United director Twine Phiri said this during a press briefing he jointly addressed with the tournament’s organisers TopSports in Blantyre on New Year’s Eve.

Phiri said his team’s management, technical panel and the players were all excited about the tournament.

“I am here to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the organisers, but also to assure soccer-loving Malawians that we will give them a good treat and provide a foreign flavour to the tournament,” said Phiri who is also chairperson of the Zimbabwe Premier League.

He also sang praises of Malawian youthful star Gerald Phiri Jnr.

“Gerald is a star. He is a gifted youngster who is disciplined and committed. In fact, when I informed my coach that I was here [in Malawi], he was excited and asked me to arrange three or four more players because of Gerald’s impressive performance,” said Phiri.

According to TopSports operations manager Kelvin Moyo, the MoU includes his company’s commitment to cater for a 30-member Caps delegation during the time they will be in the country.
