Cashgate needs special prayers—Reverend Zimba

Reverend Bannet Zimba of the Livingstonia CCAP Synod says faith leaders should hold special prayers to exorcise the country of civil servants who are plundering public resources.

Zimba, who ministers at Mabiri CCAP Congregation in Mzimba, feared that plunder of public resources might worsen if religious leaders do not seek God’s intervention.

He said the rate at which investigations into cashgate are moving could result in the death of the cases.

“The challenge is that if cases relating to cashgate don’t end in convictions, many more civil servants will be inspired to steal believing that they will walk to freedom. That’s why I feel we, as faith leaders, need to lead Malawians in special national prayers. We need to ask God to guide us on cashgate investigations, prosecutions and convictions,” said Zimba.

Asked if he was not calling for retribution for sinners, the reverend justified his argument, saying even God would not celebrate when the poor were suffering because of their leaders.

“Our God is just. He wouldn’t let innocent people suffer. Theft of taxpayers’ money by public officers at Capital Hill will cause a lot of suffering on poor Malawians.

“We would be failing our roles and responsibilities, as faith leaders, if we looked away as if everything is fine. We need to seek God’s intervention on this matter,” he said.
