Chilima: Appealed to well – wishers to donate in cash and kind

Mibawa Band and Kalimba will next month grace a fundraising dinner dance organised by the Amacea 2014 Committee on September 6 2013 at the Bingu Conference Centre.

The dinner dance is meant to help meet the costs of hosting the Association of Member Episcopal Conference of Eastern Africa (Amacea) in Lilongwe from June 16 to 26 2014.

Publicity secretary for the committee Saulos Chilima said in an interview last week that entry cards are selling at K50 000 (US$155) for a couple and K30 000 (US$93) for singles.

“This is going to be a red- carpet event packed with fun and pomp. The tickets are also part of a raffle and at this event, we shall auction a number of items. It is all part of the fundraising effort by the committee to meet costs associated with the hosting of the Amacea conference next year,” Chilima said.

He appealed to well- wishers to donate in cash and kind to support next year’s event.

Aamcea has opened a bank account at National Bank of Malawi, Lilongwe Service Centre under the name ‘ECM-Amacea 2014’. The Account Number is 1000211644.

The tickets are available at Catholic Secretariat, Maula Cathedral and also from Monica Mzanda, Mary Shawa, Ralph Tseka and Chilima.

Amacea was founded in 1961 as a coordinating body of the Catholic dioceses in eastern and southern Africa.

It comprises the Episcopal Conferences of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Since 1961, the grouping has been holding plenary assemblies every three years and Malawi has hosted the meetings twice—in 1979 in Zomba and in 1995 in Mangochi.

Amacea’s current chairperson is Archbishop Tarcisius Ziyaye, who is also chairperson of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi.

His deputy is Cardinal John Njue, Archbishop of Nairobi and chairperson of the Kenya Episcopal Conference.
