CCBC youth centre to develop arts, build responsible youth
A youth centre complex, which Capital City Baptist Church (CCBC) is currently constructing in Lilongwe, will build the artistic side of the city’s youth while focusing on developing responsible citizens out of them.
Among other things, the facility, which has an auditorium with a capacity of over 500. will be hosting activities such as drama, indoor games and other arts disciplines which will be taught by professional instructors and trainers.
In an interview, the church’s senior pastor, the Reverend Sandress Msiska said the youth centre will be open to all Lilongwe youths regardless of their religion because the idea is to build better citizens who will propel the country towards a better future when they take up leadership roles in different areas.
According to Msiska, there is more to raising the youth, especially in the current digital era where information is readily available without proper guidance, can mislead the youth.
He said: “We need to give the youth proper options to choose from. Activities that will be taking place in that centre will be drama and indoor games. There will also be a room for computers for those who want to learn computers and surf the Internet.”
The centre will also have a library for people who will want to borrow or read good books. There will also be a bookshop.
The youth centre is a K750 million project, much of which has come from the church’s membership.
Gladys Chipiyo, a Lilongwe resident, said Malawi needs more of such centres if arts among the youth is to be fully developed.
“Such centres are necessary but our leaders do not seem to care about arts development,” she said.
