CDF-funded police unit takes shape in Lilongwe

Mitundu Ward councillor Sekelani Kansikili from Lilongwe Msinja North Constituency says the new police unit being constructed under the Reformed K5 billion Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in Lilongwe will help improve security in the area.

He said this on Friday when he inspected the project to appreciate progress, adding that the implementation of the project demonstrated the importance of the fund in addressing development needs at constituency level.

“It is interesting that we have now started to see some projects taking shape under the K5 billion CDF. This is encouraging and I urge contractors to carry out their work professionally,” said Kansikili, who is also Lilongwe District Council chairperson.

Speaking in a separate interview, Central West Region Commissioner of Police Mabvuto M’bobo said the facility will help to improve security in Mitundu and surrounding areas.

He said a suitable working environment was important for officers to discharge their duties effectively and respond to security concerns within their areas of operation.

Lilongwe district commissioner Stallichi Mwambiwa said the council was committed to ensuring that CDF projects are completed within the stipulated time.

He said the council will continue monitoring construction works to ensure that contractors comply with the required standards.

“We are not just interested in seeing these projects being implemented in different constituencies, but we are much interested in the quality of work,” said Mwambiwa.

Lilongwe District Council has handed over 44 projects to contractors in various sectors.

The district has 19 constituencies, with each expected to receive K5 billion annually under the CDF.
