Chaponda ignites laughter at Apollo in Blantyre

International Award-winning comedian Daliso Chaponda kept patrons in stitches during his performance on Friday at Apollo Auditorium in Blantyre.

The auditorium was full, with some people arriving late and struggling to find seats.

Chaponda (3R) poses with some of the patrons, including Blantyre City Mayor Osman.

From the start, Chaponda made the audience laugh with his simple,  but relatable jokes and stories based on everyday life experiences.

‘The Britain’s Got Talent’ finalist performed both new and old material and the Laugh Out Live show lasted close to two hours.

Speaking after the show, Chaponda said he was happy with the response from the Blantyre audience.

“This was the first show on my 60-date tour and it was a great way to start. The audience gave me so much energy, so I kept performing,” he said.

Chaponda, son to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Chaponda,  said the tour will also create jobs and give people a new entertainment experience.

Blantyre City Mayor Isaac Jomo Osman was among the audience, indicating growing support for comedy and the creative arts in Malawi.

Audience members said they enjoyed the performance.

Greyn Rabson said the show was exciting and well organised.

“The auditorium was packed and everyone was laughing. Daliso really connected with the audience,” he said.

Chaponda said the tour continues in Lilongwe.
