Chihana pledges food, fertiliser availability
Second Vice-President Enock Chihana says government has placed the needs of Malawians, particularly food and fertiliser at the forefront of its efforts to stabilise the country’s economy.
Speaking during his first visit to Mzuzu since his swearing-in last week, Chihana, who is also Alliance for Democracy (Aford) president, said government is committed to addressing economic challenges inherited from the previous government.

He said the immediate priority is to ensure food security across the country.
Chihana said maize sourced from Zambia is expected to arrive within two weeks to help ease the current shortage.
“Ministry of Agriculture has been working tirelessly to ensure that maize arrives in good time. Our promise to the people of Malawi is that no family should go to bed hungry,” he said.
Chihana assured Malawians that fertiliser shipments are in transit to Malawi.
He said once food and fertiliser needs have been met, government’s attention will shift towards stabilising fuel supply across the country.
On his part, Blue Alliance deputy national campaign director Trywell Kasawala urged Malawians to remain hopeful, saying government is rolling out a coordinated response to stabilise prices of essential commodities.
Traditional Authority Thula welcomed Chihana and called for continued collaboration between government and traditional leaders to uplift communities.
Blue Alliance regional chairperson for the North Dennis Mhone encouraged residents to support the government’s economic agenda, noting that unity is crucial as the country works towards recovery.
