Chilapondwa football, netball trophy ends on high note

All roads in Ntchisi South last Sunday led to Chilambe Ground, Traditional Authority Kalumo, which hosted finals for Ulemu Chilapondwa football and netball trophy.

Chilapondwa, who is the legislator for Ntchisi South constituency launched the trophy as one way of engaging the youth in different activities while also scouting raw talent, among others.

The trophy was worth K5 million.

However, the climax of the event was a final match between N’gombe and Khofi football clubs.The match ended 2-1 in favour of the former and went away with K250,000.

From netball point of view, the match was played between Noyd and Ever Star and ended in favour of the latter and pocketed K150,000.

Other teams which also reached round of 16 also got consolation prizes.

Speaking in an interview, Chilapondwa described the trophy as successful despite earlier facing Covid-19 challenges as government measures to restrict public gathering had affected sports.

“I am very happy with the way this final has ended.It has been a success story and we have fulfilled our objectives. Apart from providing entertainment, we have also improved the wellbeing of participating youth as football and netball unleash good health,” said the member of parliament.

Going forward, he said he has decided to hike the stakes from K5 million to K6 million, but stressed that the money is from his own personal business proceeds and not from parliament.

Other MPs who graced the occasion include Anord Kadzanja (Ntchis North),Benard Chitekwe (Ntchis East), Jailosi Bonongwe (Kasungu West) , and Savel Kafwafwa (Dedza North).
