Chilima urges youths to embrace survival skills

Airtel Malawi managing director Saulos Chilima has advised youths in Malawi to embrace and master survival skills if they are to make it big in life.

Chilima gave the advice on Friday in the context of Malawi’s commemoration of the International Youth Day on Sunday.

He will represent young professionals in the country as Malawi joins the international community in commemorating the day.

“Life in general is becoming more and more challenging and people should master survival skills to make it in life,” he said.

Chilima also advised the youth in the country to work hard both in school and at work if they want to achieve big in life.

Born on February 12 1973, in August 2010, Chilima became the first local managing director for Airtel Malawi and is one of the country’s youngest executive officers.

He joined the company in 2006 as sales and distribution director, bringing with him over 15 years experience in various sectors.

He held senior sales and marketing positions in banking and the fast-moving consumer goods sectors, namely the Leasing and Finance Company, Unilever Malawi, Coca Cola and Carlsberg before joining the telecommunications field.

He holds a Master’s degree in Economics and is currently reading towards a PhD in Business Management with the University of Bolton.
