The 12th China Medical Team Camp held last week at Lirangwe and Chikowa health centres in Blantyre conducted 481 consultations, it has emerged.
The clinic team comprised 13 specialist doctors in cardiology, endocrinology, general surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology, obstetrics, paediatric surgery, infectious diseases and radiology among others, according to the 12th China Medical Team to Malawi team leader Dr. Liu Shangwu.

“We are here to enhance the relationship between China and Malawi and for the well-being of the human health in Malawian communities,” he said.
In a separate interview Dr. Zhu Yingpu noted that during the camp, over 50 hypertensive patients were assisted.
“There is a need for people to reduce salt intake, keep fit, do exercises and reduce weight,” she said.
The team also donated medicines and foodstuffs worth K2 million to the two health centres.
A member of the team, Dr. Li Long, said they donated the food as one way of boosting the nutrition of the patients.
“For the medicines to be effective, patients need to have good nutrition,” he said.
Chikowa Health Centre clinician Davie Chithila said he was grateful for the medicines and food because it will help patients to recover from their ailments.
“They have assisted us with medicines such as painkillers, anti-fungal, antibiotics which we will be dispensing at our facility,” he said.
The donated food items included maize, sugar, salt and corn snacks.
Chithila said the camp helped the facility, which has a catchment area of 39 000, to take on board patients who were not coming to the health centre with their ailments.
