The Chinese Medical Team working at Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) and Mzuzu Central Hospital (MCH) on Wednesday took their services to Mtsiriza, a location on the outskirts of Lilongwe City.

In an interview, leader of the team Dr. Zhong Hongping said the outreach clinic was in response to a call from the China National Health Commission to offer free medical services to communities.

Zhong: We are happy to help

He said the team provided basic physical examination for the residents and made some medical recommendations, prescriptions and treatment to those diagnosed with health complications.

Zhong said his team was pleased to carry out the exercise, adding that the team will on behalf of the Chinese Government  hand over a batch of epidemic prevention materials and daily necessities to the residents.

He said: “Through these activities, we hope we can further promote the people-to-people bond between China and Malawi, and also respond to the Belt and Road Initiative, and make positive contributions to promote a healthy community.”

In random interview, the residents who attended the mobile clinic commended the free services.

A resident Pasulani Joseph said people walk long distances to a health centre for medical checkups.

“I came with a health problem. I experience excruciating pain in my joints and sometimes I feel dizzy. I am happy that the doctors examined me and I have been advised accordingly,’ he said.

The current Chinese Medical Team is the ninth cohort since the first team came to Malawi in 2008.

The team offers services in a number of fields such as internal medicine, surgical, paediatrics, obstetrics, anaethesiology and radiology at KCH and MCH.
